Carrego Comigo. (I carry with me)

Carrego Comigo is a photographic series that explores the relationships between territory, displacement, and belonging through the encounter between two Brazilian landscapes: the Atlantic Forest, where I have lived since 2010, and the Caatinga, the region that holds part of my family's history. Black-and-white photographs of the Atlantic Forest are hand-painted with watercolour, incorporating colours inspired by the vegetation of Brazil's northeastern sertão.

More than a chromatic intervention, the watercolour functions as a gesture of connection between these two territories. By carrying the colours of the Caatinga into images of the Atlantic Forest, the series constructs a symbolic landscape in which origin and displacement are no longer opposing experiences. The brushstrokes do not seek to reproduce nature but to reveal the emotional ties that remain present even after we have moved elsewhere.

Carrego Comigo reflects on what continues to shape us throughout our lives. The interventions suggest that belonging is determined not only by where we live, but also by the landscapes, memories, and histories that we continue to carry within us.
