Menos Pausa

Menos Pausa is an ongoing body of work that examines the physical, emotional, and symbolic transformations of the female body during midlife. Developed through photography, video, monotype, objects, and installation, the project draws upon the experience of menopause to explore questions of visibility, ageing, identity, desire, and permanence within a society that continues to privilege youth.

The research emerged from the recognition that, despite affecting millions of women, menopause remains surrounded by silence and persistent cultural taboos. Beyond its medical dimension, it continues to be largely absent from public discourse and everyday conversation. From this starting point, the project combines personal experience with an ongoing dialogue developed through interviews and conversations with other women. Resisting a linear or documentary narrative, the works employ staged photography, self-portraiture, everyday objects, and symbolic gestures to address the complexities of this stage of life. Loss and discovery, vulnerability and strength, silence and transformation coexist without seeking definitive conclusions.

Rather than treating menopause simply as its subject, Menos Pausa reflects on the experience of inhabiting a body in constant transformation. By bringing together multiple artistic languages, the project seeks to make visible a stage of life that remains underrepresented within the collective imagination, creating a space for recognition, dialogue, and shared experience.
