Dobra do Tempo. (Fold of Time)

Dobra do Tempo is a series of photographic collages within Chão de Histórias that explores the relationships between territory, memory, and ancestry. Combining photographs made in the sertão of Pernambuco with portraits from the artist's family archive and handmade Renascença lace, the works bring together photography and hand-cut collage to create compositions where different temporalities and geographies coexist.

The acts of cutting, displacing, and reassembling images transform collage into an operation upon time itself. In the archival photographs, the cuts are made exclusively through the sky or the ground—elements that remain shared by those who came before and those who inhabit the present. Repositioned within new landscapes, these fragments create encounters that never occurred, yet reveal emotional, cultural, and symbolic connections that endure across generations. The inclusion of Renascença lace—an artisanal tradition passed down among women of Brazil's Northeast—adds another layer of memory to this visual construction.

By assembling fragments of the past into new constellations, Dobra do Tempo considers memory as something continuously reconstructed. The collages suggest that different temporalities can inhabit the same territory simultaneously, revealing landscape not simply as a repository of remembrance, but as an active participant in the ongoing creation of memory.
