Preciosas. (Precious)

As an extension of Chão de Histórias, the sculpture and ceramics research expands the project's investigation into territory, memory, and ancestry through three-dimensional form. Working primarily with clay, these works establish a direct dialogue with the same elements that appear throughout the photographic series and collages, extending the research into new materials and spatial experiences.

The interest in ceramics emerged from an understanding of the earth not simply as the subject of the work, but as its living material. Through the tactile process of shaping clay by hand, the practice incorporates gestures of construction, transformation, and permanence that run throughout the entire project. The sculptures establish relationships between body, vessel, landscape, and memory, bringing together artisanal traditions and family narratives rooted in the sertão of Pernambuco.

Among these investigations is Preciosas, a sculptural series composed of small hand-painted clay water vessels (moringas). Traditionally used to store and naturally cool water in the sertão—a resource that is both essential and historically scarce—these vessels are transformed from functional containers into vessels of memory. The title of the series refers precisely to this dual meaning: the preciousness of the water they preserve and the memories they symbolically carry across generations.
